Loading the correct calibration. The software and parameter set matched to your exact engine, transmission, axle ratio, and emissions configuration β not the donor's.
Post-programming relearn or calibration. Depending on the module, this can mean an idle relearn, a transmission adaptation drive cycle, a steering angle calibration, a crank sensor relearn, or a theft deterrent relearn.
A quote that covers only the second of those four is not a complete job. It is the part of the job that is easy to do and easy to advertise cheaply.

Engine and transmission modules on domestic trucks are the classic good case. The new part is expensive, the platform is permissive, and the saving is real.
